Video oral history with Doshia Addington, former mail carrier in Southwestern Virginia. Addington talks about her life growing up in Appalachia in the early 20th century as one of twelve children. She discusses farming, preserving food for a large family, becoming a mother of six children and the various kinds of work she did taking care of her own family. She shows photographs of herself and her children working on her land, recites a recipe for homemade soap, lists an assortment of herbal remedies and demonstrates how to make a rag rug. This program was videotaped for broadcast on cable television Channel 12 as part of the Broadside/Mountain Community Television initiative to provide locally produced public access television to southwestern Virginia.
